On July 8, 2018, the Croatian team defeated Russia 6-5 in the penalty shootout of the quarterfinals of the World Cup, advancing to the semi-finals of the World Cup for the second time since 1998. On July 12th, in the second semi-final match of the World Cup, Croatia defeated England 2-1 in extra time and advanced to the World Cup final for the first time. [4] On the early morning of July 16th Beijing time, the 2018 World Cup in Russia came to an end. Croatia lost 2-4 to France and won the runner up. This competition set Croatia's World Cup best record. In 2022, the Croatian national men's football team participated in the 2022 Qatar World Cup and won the third place.
